Oking, a poor tenant’s son, loves Loring, the daughter of Don Ricardo, the landowner. Knowing of their relationship, Don Ricardo stops his daughter from seeing him. Famine strikes. The poor tenants ask Loring for help, only to be refused. Because of this cruel act, Oking kills Loring and her father.
